Ive spent a good deal of time in South Charleston and am well aware of its rich history; especially industrial. I am also a big fan of the "Images of America" series and personally own about ten of them and have never been disappointed.I am not 100% clear on how Arcadia Publishing does the Images of America series but from what I understand anyone can publish a book under the system.Well; whoever made this book had NO business doing so. I am somewhat of a history buff and have seen a lot of information about South Charleston in other books as well as the WV State Archives. This book was made up of a very sparse collection of historical photos and to my dismay the bulk of the photos were semi recent (1970s-1990s?) photos that appeared to be the author and her friends at various cocktail parties and social events! Very little effort was made to chronicle South Charlestons rich industrial history that was result of the two World Wars; and next to nothing was mentioned about the regions rich Native American history.Just because anyone can publish a book under the Images of America series doesnt mean that everyone should!
