Cardenio between Cervantes and Shakespeare: The Story of a Lost Play

[ebooks] Cardenio between Cervantes and Shakespeare: The Story of a Lost Play by Roger Chartier at Arts-Photography

Description

Great Britain not only invented the main-line railway but has also led the way in its preservation - not just locomotves and carriages but also the buildings and structures that bear witness to the confidence of railway developers; architects and engineers. This book defines the nature of the railway heritage - from signalboxes; viaducts; tunnels and locomotive depots - and then discusses priorities and the best practice for its conservation. The subject is a strongly topical one due to current concern over privatization; the effects of planned high-speed rail links and lively debates concerning the role of the enthusiast in railway preservation.

Review
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. but who love great dramatic narrativesBy Mrs. S. ShawAt last a really scholarly but readable introduction to this extraordinary story. Clear; well-researched articles outline local variations; festive links and colour ndash; and demonstrate why this tale has historically been the most popular story in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asian Buddhism can only really be understood by some knowledge of this story ndash; and this book brings its many contexts and variations to life. I think that those in the West who may not even have heard of this story; but who love great dramatic narratives; will find this provides really important background.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. These were the only comparisons he could think of? Why? Why not some other texts; from another tradition? The Jataka story is filtered through the Shakespearean... plays. Aside from that Orientalist suggestion; the very category of "literature" is even more offensive; since pious Buddhists would not ascribe that modern notion to the Jatakas.
