Great photograhs and narrative of old California pioneers.By 4JoyI read the Emerald Mile and it referenced the St. Francis dam disaster and flood and I wanted to learn more. Legendary Locals includes that and much more. The history; people and events of old California is captured in this gem of a book. The photographs add to the narrative and the old pioneers come to life.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Rivetinghellip;..definitely 5-starsBy Dr. MThis book is a beautifully done; rich compendium of some of the very fascinating folks from Fillmorersquo;s past. They are as diverse as it gets; ranging from murderers like Tiburcio Vasquez; Hollywood star (Mary Pickford); and pioneering photojournalist (Charles Lummis).I was most intrigued by the story of Joaquin Murrieta; who like Robin Hood who would take care for the oppressed; and the poor people would in turn protect him from the law. The rangers who finally killed him actually decapitated his head; and put it in alcohol filled jar for public display. The beautiful pictures presented with the local legends bring to life their fascinating stories and the author is successful in making the reader actually live through all those years in Fillmore.Highly Recommended.
