Celestial Art: The Fantastic Art of Josephine Wall (Gothic Dreams)

[audiobook] Celestial Art: The Fantastic Art of Josephine Wall (Gothic Dreams) by Joseph Simas at Arts-Photography

Description

More than a billion people watched the 9/11 World Trade Center destruction unfold on television; making it the greatest shared event in world history. Reflecting this fact; the 2003 World Trade Center Memorial Design Competition was open to anyone; drawing 5;201 entries from 60 countries; all of which were posted online. Most designs were the greyscale hardscape of typical memorials. A few were radically imaginative. Some engaged memory with sound; color; movement; technology or visitor participation. Others reached across the globe; cyberspace; even outer space. These imaginings stirred questions about their creators. Who were they? What were they thinking and feeling? How did the concept develop? This book; based on a first ever review of the entries; tells the personal stories of more than 180 designers whose creative perspective translated an horrific event; giving deeper thought to the relation of memorial spaces to history; geography; technology and cultural diversity.

Finally a more detailed comparison review - Celestial Art and Fantasy World of Josephine WallBy ReginaShopaholicI have both Celestial Art and the Fantasy World of Josephine Wall. who is my very favorite artist. I believe the hardcover version is worth the extra money as the photos can go right to the edge and might become damaged in a soft cover copy. If you love her work. I would also recommend you buy both. There are just a couple of pics that are in both books. but not many. I love almost every piece in both. If you can only get one. than I think I would personally choose the Fantasy World one as it has the most complete collection of what I consider to be some of her most famous pieces. The Celestial one also has just a bit more reading content throughout than the Fantasy one.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A great gift for Fantasy And Surreal Art fansBy SueThis book is part biography. part coffee table art book. and was fun to look at. The paper and paintings are high quality. and the interesting analysis of some of Walls paintings really make you sit down and think.
