Despite the fact that this sanguinary battle was probably the worst American defeat of the Revolutionary War; it is a little known battle except to the most knowledgable Revolutionary War buffs. This book is entirely accounts from American and British soldiers and commanders who fought at Camden; not a battle narrative like that found in books such as A Devil of a Whipping: The Battle of Cowpens. It was interesting to read the accounts of men who fought at Camden; but it would have been nicer to have an in depth narrative of the battle. The best part of the book was the photographs of reenactors at the Camden Battlefield.A nice book but by no means a great work of military history.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. CamdenBy avidreaderI enjoyed this book very much but I am a history nut. I do not think the casual history buff will enjoy the book as much. It is for the person who is really into understanding the American Revolution6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Good; but not what you might expectBy John R. Beaman Jr.There are no real narratives on The Battle of Camden (1780). This is a good basis for those who wish to study things further. It is; as the title states; a documentary history. Lots of first person reports and commentaries that are interesting; but not something that will be defintive. There has yet to be written; a good; documented and narrative history of the battle. This battle was the starting key to what eventually was victory in the American Revolution in the South.
