A great read on the musical insights of the GWOT Veteran both at war and upon returning home.By Pete ChinniciAn in depth and great thought provoking study on the listening habits as well as the emotional; psychological; and physical changes that occur while listening to music in a wartime environment. Though the book is a detailed analysis of the intricacies between the two it reads very much like an overhead view of a military deployment and redeployment; more of an over the shoulder look at the music preferences and reactions as each person traverses the battlefield and takes it their own way.If youre curious about how music can help heal trauma as well as looking for a great read on general combat life without the political overtones this is a great book to pick up. The author (Lisa Gilman) shows a great balance in her writing of providing the reader with both past studies and reports as well as allowing each persons voice to truly be heard individually as well as collectively. Having known many of the people who contributed to this book I am amazed at how well she was able to capture each of their personalities so well and utilized the words they would use to describe the events themselves. Excellent work; I fully recommend it!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
