Some photographers make portraits that we canrsquo;t take our eyes off of. These images create mood; evoke emotion; and pique our curiosity. They have that certain something that other portraits seem to lack. These rare images are memorable—the kind of shots that clients want and photographers strive to emulate. These portraits are technically precise and have style.Neil van Niekerk is a big name in the portrait and wedding photography industry. His masterful photographs get a reaction; and hersquo;s devoted to helping others create compelling portraits for their clients. In this book; van Niekerk shows readers strategies for creating a wide range of portrait looks (romantic; fun; sweet; dramatic; glamorous; or moody) in lackluster; middle-of-nowhere locales; small home studios; big expanses; and even on rooftops. Starting with traditional lighting and posing strategies and moving through “spicierrdquo; varieties; he shows readers how integrating specialized lighting (rim lighting; backlighting; flare; and low-key lighting—using natural light and artificial sources) and compositional approaches (shallow depth of field; lens compression; and unorthodox perspectives) into their creative approach can allow them to take full creative control over their portrait-taking process so that theyrsquo;re able to deliver incredible shots of their clients in any photographic conditions.

I am an engineer and pilot by trade but the level of technical detail is easily grasped by anyone. I am familiar with the terms used now thus when the house is under construction I will be able to follow what is going on. Also this book explains what problems can arise like a wall blow out and why it happened which is good since you want to avoid that at all costs.Would I buy this book again?Yes10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Fair intro to ICF for building contractorsBy Danny ThorpeThis book is not a how-to of ICF construction. It is an introduction to ICF terms and practices geared primarily toward building contractors interested in expanding their business into ICF construction. There is quite a bit of text on the topic of marketing ICF to homebuyers and justifying the costs of ICF construction; which as a DIY owner/builder I found mostly uninteresting.A lot of text is spent describing the benefits of ICF construction against wind damage; but almost no mention of the benefits of reinforced concrete against seismic damage. There is also a lot of repetition of content between chapters - advice and anecdotes found in the early introductory chapters are repeated verbatim in later chapters. This makes it feel like the authors were trying to bulk up their page count without actually adding any content. This book deals only with generalities. For specific details on things like wall thicknesses required or rebar placement this book always redirects you to the ICF manufacturers documentation or other ICF books by the same author.Overall; this book is a reasonable introduction to the lingo and general practices of ICF construction. It might be useful for a building contractor who is clueless about concrete or to keep this book on hand to loan out to prospective clients; but as it does not contain any specific information it is not a reference that a builder or designer will return to again and again.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
