Chicago's Mansions (Images of America)

[ebooks] Chicago's Mansions (Images of America) by John Graf at Arts-Photography

Description

Alfred and Alfred Station reveals the heritage of a southwestern New York State community nestled in the hills of Allegany County. With more than 200 pictures; the story honors the early pioneers who in 1807 permanently settled on forested land once inhabited by the Seneca Nation. It focuses on not only educationalways highly valued; as evidenced in the three institutions of higher learning herebut also on the people; businesses; farms; and civic organizations that have enriched the town for 200 years.

Hard to imagine that such grand houses once existed in this City. Loved every page of this book and anyone who appreciates grand mansions and the Gilded Age era will revel in this fine book. Most poignant is the incredible waste in tearing down these marvels of artistic accomplishments that reflected workmanship. craftsmanship and imagination such as we will never see again.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great look at early Chicago Mansions.By Alan R.Great photos of many of the mansions that were demolished in the name progress. I would have liked to have a little more detail on each mansion. but there was good information on the original owner and the architects who designed them.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
