This collection of brief but insightful essays; though always returning to the authorrsquo;s central conviction that the quality of artistic endeavour depends not on individuals of genius but on the attitude of the public towards art itself; examines a wide variety of unique but related issues: the relationship between natural and artistic beauty; the genius of Da Vinci and Nicholas Poussin; the influence of femininity on European art; the importance of good criticism; art as a social phenomenon; the role of the passions; and a range of associated topics.First published in 1919; A. Clutton-Brockrsquo;s reflections on the nature and function of art bear the marks of the deep anxieties following the First World War; and can thus speak to a generation similarly faced with uncertainty.

Frankly it all completely overwhelmed me. I am amazing at my career now that I live in a big city but have struggled getting ahead. I finally realized that a large part of it is more than likely my lack of fashion sense (sadly because people shouldnt be that crazy about judgment but whatevs). Anyway this book has been awesome and super helpful for me because I have specifics to go off of and no longer feel intimidated. Im excited to move forward and live in my style... :) Thanks so much!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Easy to read and more importantly enjoyable to readBy CustomerEasy to read and more importantly enjoyable to read. Works equally well for people who have an interest in fashion and for those who have no idea about it. I will be using this book as a reference for a long time to come.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. EhBy The FluhartysWas required for a past job; didnt help at all.. :/
