While the focus is on the single painting of the Boit sisters; the text puts the painting into a social and art history context. Entertaining and informative read. Even the story of what happened to the sitters in adult life is compelling. The manner in which the author puts into context the family; the times; and the artist should be a model for all art historians to follow.
