Nice price but an accompanying text that truly bafflesBy BillybuddAn inexpensive way to acquire medium-quality reproductions of Soutines paintings; but the text is so poorly written. This work is likely translated (although no mention of a translator is given); and then in a rather literal; flat style. The content itself meanders along; full of historical; social and political digressions and commentary; anecdotal with very little insight into what made Soutine tick as an artist and painter. The price and format (large color reproductions) are really the one redeeming quality of this book; but very little effort was devoted to producing a quality text.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Cynthia Heise SwartzWell printed book. Some art books have blurry or poorly reproduced images. This one has bright; crisp images.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Worth getting.By GThe reproductions are not that great; in my humble opinion. I dont know if that is the quality (or lack of) of the book; or of the original art. I guess sometimes its hard to reproduce artwork that has deteriorated. I dont know. The book; though; is good overall; and the selections are pretty thorough. Nice paper; great cover; a really good deal for the price.
