There are a lot of guitar technique ...By headI found the information and exercises in this book pretty useful. There are a lot of guitar technique books out there that cover much of the same ground. With that in mind I would recommend this one for its presentation and practical approach. I like the exercises dealing with chromatic octaves. I think those are very useful and there is a section dealing with cadences in many of the most common keys. These are fingerings and chord progressions you will see in much of the 18th and 19th century guitar music. My objective was to improve both my technique and my sight reading. This book is a big disappointment:- The text is poorly written. Its not that its too technical. its simply unclear.- The symbols used in the music notation are not defined in the text. This compounds the problem of lack of clarity.- The scales themselves are poorly labeled. A scale will be introduced with a name and a key signature. then the key signature change will be introduced without noting a change for the name of the scale.- Also. a scale will be introduced with a name. a key signature and accidentals. TerrazasI am a hybrid classical/steel-string fingerstyle player and I use this book daily for practice. The sections on right hand development are excellent and there are many exercises and options for right hand picking patterns. The etudes in the book are also very good and the lesson suggests alternate right hand picking patterns for variations.Aside from that. there are other parts of the book that I dont use but that can be useful to anyone that is interested: scales. legato. et al.Edit. October 24th. 2011: I am still using this book almost daily with great results. I have a recommendation for right hand development: create a spreadsheet for every right hand exercise and track your metronome speeds. I color-code my speeds according to how many BPM I reach. Once I am able to play all the exercises at a certain tempo. I increase the BPM. This has brought me great results thus far.
