A Fistful of DelightsBy Franklin the MouseIt is obvious that Mr. Schickel is a movie critic. a good friend of Mr. Eastwood and an apologist of practically everything the film icon has done that is questionable. The book is a sympathetic portrayal and does a fine job explaining the movie stars rise in the entertainment field. Thankfully. this is not a slimy celebrity biography in the likes of Kitty Kellys works. Instead. Mr. Schickel spends a great deal of time explaining many of Mr. Eastwoods films and how his choices are related to his growth as an individual. A fascinating subject matter who has endured in an industry that usually makes cannon fodder of most celebrities having long-term careers. Elements of luck. intelligence and perseverance enabled Mr. Eastwood to remain an entertainment force for over four decades. Well-written and informative. If youve ever had a keen interest in how this man became an American movie icon. youll probably enjoy the book.1 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Clint Eastwood: A Biography - Its NotBy C E StanleyAs with most biographies about movie stars. "Clint Eastwood: A Biography" is a very disappointing biography. What most celebrity biographers do to fill the pages (in this case 501)they fill the majority (in this case over 300)of the pages with filmographical reviews of each and every film. each and every director. etc.. Leaving very few pages about who they are supposedly writing about in biographical format (in this case - Clint Eastwood). Those pages that actually deal with biographical material on Eastwood are well presented and therefore interesting. The rest. as I have seen the majority of Eastwoods films. are boring as I could have written them myself. and in some cases probably have done a better job. Starting in Chapter 5 the digression toward film reviews starts. Chapter 6 is mostly about Siegel or his biography) the director of many Eastwood movies. Chapter 8 becomes a political treatise which would be OK if it were strictly about Eastwood. Therefore 501 pages about Eastwoods films and not much about him and his life off camera. Disappointing!0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy JenniferClint Eastwood is the best star in history!
