This book argues that mobility is the central theme of the interwar mode of design known today as Art Deco. It is present on the very surfaces of Art Deco objects and architecture – in iconography and general formal qualities (whether the zigzag rectilinear forms Âpopular in the 1920s or curvilinear streamlining of the 1930s). By focussing on mobility as a means of tying the seemingly disparate qualities of Art Deco together; Michael Windover shows how the surface-level expressions correspond as well with underpinning systems of mobility; including those associated with migration; transportation; commodity exchange; capital; and communication.Journeying across the globe – from a skyscraper in ÂVancouver; B.C.; to a department store in Los Angeles; and from super-cinemas in Bombay (Mumbai) to radio cabinets in Canadian living rooms – this richly illustrated book examines the reach of Art Deco as it affected public Âcultures. Windover’s innovative perspective exposes some of the socio-Âpolitical consequences of this “mode of mobility†and offers some reasons as to how and why Art Deco was incorporated into everyday lifestyles around the world.

Ive fallen in love again with her work.By Night Owl Romance Books4.5 Stars / Top Pick - Tammie of Night Owl ReviewsWendy Piersall delights us colorists again with a fabulous collection of hand-drawn designs. Ive fallen in love again with her work. The peacock drawing showcased on the front of the coloring book is just beautiful and a great inspiration point as you head into making your starter selection.Colorists will get to color beautifully drawn owls. parrots. finches. hummingbirds. toucans. peacocks. flamingos and more. You will have a hard time choosing which drawing to color in first. After lots of contemplation I decided to start with flamingos. I will soon showcase my completed coloring on Twitter. Check out the hashtag #NORColoringEach drawing is done on its own page. so you dont have to worry that you have back to back images or that your colored pencils will rub off onto another drawing. The book also is manufactured with a lay-flat binding. Detaching the pages can be tricky as they dont just rip out easily. I suggest cutting them out and trimming as needed if you want to detach pages.Overall the book is a great price at $10.00 USA / $11.95 CAN.I cant wait to color more pages and Im looking forward to seeing what subject Wendy Piersall takes on next.Disclosure: courtesy copy from the publisher/author for an honest review.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Loved this!By T. MurrellColoring can be relaxing. help you focus. and is a peaceful fun way to unwind. This is the 6th book by this artist and has the same style of beautiful. intricate drawings as the others. Each page is made of thick. white. heavy-duty paper that wont bleed through or show indentions. The artist has created 30 birds that almost completely fill each page and offer a wide variety for the imagination to enjoy coloring. This artist is my favorite when it comes to adult coloring books. Ive looked through. and colored. multiple books and I always come back to these books. The books are easy to use when sitting down on a chair since they use such heavy paper. There is no need for a table or desk. The attention to detail is beautiful and allows me to create my own little work of art. Ive used this while listening to presentations. as a way to relax. and while waiting for appointments. I love owls so we pleased to see several of them included. If you are looking for a good quality. detailed adult coloring book. Id highly recommend this one. Well worth every penny.
