Continuity and Change in Art: The Development of Modes of Representation

[DOC] Continuity and Change in Art: The Development of Modes of Representation by Sidney J. Blatt; Ethel S. Blatt in Arts-Photography

Description

While not everyone would agree with Alfred Hitchcocks notorious remark that actors are cattle; there is little understanding of the work film actors do. Yet audience enthusiasm for; or dislike of; actors and their style of performance is a crucial part of the film-going experience. Screen Acting discusses the development of film acting; from the stylisation of the silent era; through the naturalism of Lee Strasbergs Method; to Mike Leighs use of improvisation. The contributors to this innovative volume explore the philosophies which have influenced acting in the movies and analyse the styles and techniques of individual filmmakers and performers; including Bette Davis; James Mason; Susan Sarandon and Morgan Freeman. There are also interviews with working actors: Ian Richardson discusses the relationship between theatre; film and television acting; Claire Rushbrook and Ron Cook discuss theri work with Mike Leigh; and Helen Shaver discusses her work with the critic Susan Knobloch.

Excellent Account of Four Unique Personalities in the Impressionist MovementBy CustomerThis is a well-written account of four of the most influential artists of the late 19th and early 20th century Impressionist art movement. It provides a great background of the art climate of the time. The book also shows the relationships of these artists and their influences on one another and the Paris art world. The book delves deep into their personalities and the social restrictions that affected their lives and their careers. Meyers showed how all four artists were unique in that they dared to go against the art world establishment; and how they persisted and rose above the often harsh criticism. A good and easy read for anyone wanting to know more about these four ground breaking artists and their influence on the Impressionist movement.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
