From her construction at Lima Locomotive Works and important role in hauling material from factories to the front in World War II to her unlikely preservation on Michigan State University�s campus and eventual restoration; the history of 1225 covers nearly 75 years. The locomotive is now housed at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso; Michigan; and the story behind it will take readers back to a time when whistles in the night charged the imagination and the United States truly was the �Arsenal of Democracy.�

Bernard Maybeck; always amazing!By KVRI have many books on Maybeck; but this one offers much more in terms of photographs and examples of his projects. To me one of the most appealing facts about Maybeck was his modesty about his talent. Compare his personality to that of Frank Lloyd Wright.I live in the East Bay and am always excited to see examples of his work. This book includes a small house which I could see from the windows of my earlier home. A friend lived there so I saw the interior as well as the exterior. Ive searched forit in other books without success and began to wonder if it were just a "myth" that this was a "Maybeck House".There are houses in Berkeley which Im sure must be his work; but street nameshave changed over the years; so it is difficult to verify that. One of the sadthings about the body of his work is the fact that major fires in the Bay Area have destroyed so many of his projects; a few photographs are all that remain.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
