Creative Rebellion for the Twenty-First Century: The Importance of Public and Interactive Art to Political Life in America

[ePub] Creative Rebellion for the Twenty-First Century: The Importance of Public and Interactive Art to Political Life in America by Diana Boros in Arts-Photography

Description

Since the development of photography in the mid-nineteenth century; the camera has been used as a tool of both discovery and preservation. Photographs bring alive our image of the past; and can open a floodgate of memories and nostalgia or inspire curiosity and a sense of history. Originally founded by a fishing company from Dorchester; England; in 1623; Gloucester has always been linked to fishing and the sea. By 1870 Gloucester was the leading fishing port in the Western Hemisphere; and its great fleet of fast; white-winged schooners ranged deep into the heart of the Atlantic in search of cod; haddock; halibut; and mackerel. These stunningly beautiful ships and the hardy men who sailed them made ldquo;Gloucesterrdquo; an evocation of courage; perseverance; and seamanship unique in Americarsquo;s maritime heritage.

An excellent discussion of the transformative nature of artBy morrison13Boros discusses clearly and directly. making the often complicated writing of philosophy approachable and informative for people interested in politics. art. or philosophy. Boros leads an interesting discussion on how art. an under-appreciated tool in developed democracies. can help stimulate conversation and improve individual relationships with each other and help build a more public democracy. Her book gave me a new perspective on art as a political tool and illuminated. for me. the importance of art in creating group interaction. I would absolutely recommend this book to any one interested in a fresh perspective. and unique discussion. of how art can make a difference.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Highly Reccommend!!By iheartbooksI found Boross assessment and critique both poignant and refreshing. Reading her argument has consolidated for me the idea that public art encourages liberation and engagement. This book is perfect for anyone inclined towards both art and philosophy. and likewise. is an excellent choice for anyone inclined towards the belief that art has the ability to influence individuals within society. Unlike some other books devoted to theoretical inquiries. this book is well-written and easily understood. I strongly recommend it.
