El land art es un movimiento artiacute;stico contemporaacute;neo que utiliza como tema y soporte los materiales de la Naturaleza (madera; tierra; piedras; arena; rocas; etc.). Su principal teacute;cnica es la intervencioacute;n-instalacioacute;n en el paisaje.Las primeras obras se realizaron en los paisajes deseacute;rticos del Oeste americano a finales de los antilde;os sesenta. Por ello resulta un movimiento casi genuinamente americano. Nacido en un contexto poliacute;tico conservador; este movimiento utilizoacute; la Naturaleza como un escenario artiacute;stico donde debatir los movimientos sociales de finales de los antilde;os sesenta (hippismo; feminismo; contracultura...). En definitiva; un nuevo comportamiento artiacute;stico; alejado de los modos tradicionales; como otros que surgieron en los antilde;os sesenta y setenta; en respuesta a la comercializacioacute;n del objeto artiacute;stico tradicional.Entre sus principales artistas cabe considerar a Walter De Maria; Richard Long; Robert Morris o Robert Smithson; entre otros.
