ValleeDr. Curl was my favorite teacher while at FAU--he was the head of the history department; a friend and an adviser as well.;..Great book on the founding (of which he was an important part) of the first American University to be called an upper division University when created...a good read...4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Everything you could ask for!By Nicholas ScaliceHaving just completed my first semester at FAU; I have often wondered how this fine institution got its start back in 1961. Fortunately; Donald W. Curl gives us an answer and so much more. His book may be brief on text; but the outstanding collection of photographs of the university make up for that. This is a must-read for all students of FAU; past and present; as well as any future students. If you want to know about the unique history of your school; this book is a fantastic read that will make you think twice the next time you walk on the FAU campus. If there is any downfall in this publication; it is simply the fact that the narrative and photographic history stops around the year 2000; which means that some of the most important events in FAU history are missing; but rightfully so; since they occurred after the publication date.Nevertheless; this book gives the reader a great account of the early days and with that comes (at least for me) a deeper understanding of such an interesting university.
