Design and the Question of History (Design; Histories; Futures)

[ePub] Design and the Question of History (Design; Histories; Futures) by Tony Fry; Clive Dilnot; Susan Stewart in Arts-Photography

Description

Katsushika Hokusai is one of the most famous names in Japanese art; and the epitome of the later Ukiyo-e (floating world) school. He also is one of the great draftsmen of the world. With his inimitable sense of humor Hokusai best describes himself: ldquo; From the age of 6 I had a mania for drawing the shapes of things. When I was 50 I had published a universe of designs. But all I have done before the age of 70 is not worth bothering with. At 75 Ill have learned something of the pattern of nature; of animals; of plants; of trees; birds; fish and insects. When I am 80 you will see real progress. At 90 I shall have cut my way deeply into the mystery of life itself. At 100; I shall be a marvellous artist. At 110; everything I create; a dot; a line; will jump to life as never before. To all of you who are going to live as long as I do; I promise to keep my word. I am writing this in my old age. I used to call myself Hokusai; but today I sign my self The Old Man Mad About Drawing.rdquo; Hokusai Katsushika

Great old classicsBy readingitallThis edition was a wonderful value; containing many of the well loved classics like Little Women and others of that series. But it also contained other of the authors less well known works that I just fell in love with. I will say that the editing could have been a little better; there were some words where the I was an o or viseversa but overall a wonderful read and and a great bargain at the price.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Refreshing!!By AnitaI read this book year ago and have two movie versions. It is a lovely story. In this rereading I was cognizant of its simplicity; the numerous moral life lessens and the focus on family relations in their idealistic forms. It was nice for a change to enjoy these elements rather than todays focus on dysfunctions and amoral or immoral issues of families and society. All I all it was enjoyable and downright refreshing!!!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Still GoodBy JanmabaI first read "Little Women" when I was in 8th grade and thats a very long time ago. I loved the plot and the characters back then. I appreciate the novel for its contribution to American literature now. However reading it as a retired teacher; I can see many examples of sexism and racism that an adolescent never would have noticed back in 1962. Also i wanted to reread the novel because television is redoing the film this holiday season.
