Description

Henrik Ibsen (20th March; 1828 ndash; 23rd May; 1906) is often referred to as the father of realism and ranked just below Shakespeare as Europersquo;s greatest ever playwright especially as his plays are performed most frequently throughout the world after Shakespearersquo;s. Ibsen was Norwegian and although set his plays in Norway; he wrote them in Danish and lived most of his professional life in Italy and Germany. His affect on the theatre is still evident today and shapes the distinction of plays being art as opposed to entertainment since he broke down all previous traditions and explored issues; developed characterisation; revealed uncomfortable truths; challenged assumptions and brokedown facades in ourselves as well as society. These factors are evident in Ibsenrsquo;s very first play; Catiline; a historical drama written in 1848 and based on the historical figure of the Roman nobleman Lucius Catilina that was also the subject of a play by Ben Johnson. Catiline is torn between two women; his wife Aurelia and the vestal virgin Furia. His agonising dilemma between these two women representing two sides of himself; possibly ability and aspiration; give an interesting psychological introspection to this play.

Gave a pretty good insight of the hip hop world of magaginze publishing; including some of the wild goings-on behind the scenes. Some interesting stories about a few well-known rap/hip-hop artists. I got a laugh here and there; raised my eyebrows a few times. Get a good bargain priced one for your book collection.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Straight from The Source - 4.5 starsBy GeminigirlConsidering myself an "outsider" to rap/hip hop post 1990; I never gave The Source more than a cursory flip through and didnt know that Kim Osorio was the EIC until after I heard about her lawsuit. In fact; the only thing I HAD heard about the magazine regarded "Benzinos" ego-driven vendettas against certain artists so I was pretty eager to read this book to get the real story. The flow of the book is excellent; she doesnt waste time detailing her personal relationships but admits to them without the sometimes tasteless sensationalization that others have used in recent tell-alls. As a woman who also grew up on rap hip/hop; I truly felt her pain and the pain of other women who initially loved the artists; music lifestyle of hip hop but then gradually got worn down due to the mysogyny abuse perpetuated by so many males whove also grown up on this genre.Kims attempts to remain professional in the face of the kind of madness she worked in was admirable - I probably wouldve quit long before she did but on the other hand; why should she have to quit such a lucrative position and more importantly; one that she loved because of a crazy boss?!This is a very entertaining addictive read told in a matter-of-fact style that will have you laughing out loud at some of her observations and is a book that Id highly recommend to those immersed in hip hop news as well as the curious (like me) who just wanted to get some insight into how such a popular influential magazine imploded.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. WELL SAID! Inspiring to say the leastBy I. WormlyKims book was very inspiring to all writers-- especially those who are minorities and would like to make it in the hip hop/publishing industry. As a young women she gives us hope that we can overcome male-chauvinistic personalities in the workforce. yet still be successful. Admitting her own fault and correcting the mistakes she made early on in the book gives the reader something to look forward when reading. I feel her early life was told with great detail; but her rise to success could have been explained a bit better. I mean; if all it takes is a job advertisement to become EIC of the " Hip-Hop Bible" let me know. But all around the book is very frank; addicting and intriguing for readers and lovers of the Hip-Hop culture
