Die Adria: Wiederentdeckung eines Sehnsuchtsortes (German Edition)

[ePub] Die Adria: Wiederentdeckung eines Sehnsuchtsortes (German Edition) by Uwe Rada at Arts-Photography

Description

Through his elegant brush paintings and masterful woodblocks; Katsushika Hokusai (1760ndash;1849) became one of Japanrsquo;s most internationally-renowned artists. A master of Ukiyo-e art; he single-handedly transformed the art form from a simple style focused on courtesans and famous actors into a grander style depicting the beauty of nature seen through landscapes and wildlife. His style of art and subject evolved as many times as he changed his name; but Hokusairsquo;s talent as an artist remained constant and his influential role in later art movements such as Art Nouveau and Impressionism remains eternal.

San Francisco; the "Greek Town"... Who knew?By M. FrancisId give this a 5-Star rating; except that its for such a small market (specifically the Greek community of San Francisco.) Being Greek American myself; and having spent the first few years of life in San Francisco; it was fun to see the history of the community. I never knew there was one time a "Greek Town" part of San Francisco. A shame its no longer there. If youre Greek; its a good book. It more than likely reflects the development of Greek communities in other big cities.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An interesting and informative history of Greek-Americans in San FranciscoBy G. MisthosMy father; Harry G. Misthos; was; so I am told; the first Greek-American teacher in San Francisco. His brother; my uncle Angelo Misthos; served as a Marine during WWII and saw plenty of action in the Far East in the war with Japan. And my great-grandfather. George Misthos; for years worked on and maintained The Little Puffer train in its original location at the SF Zoo (I have pictures of him with the train). Would have been nice if they would have been included in this book. That being said; I am sure there are plenty of other Greek-American SF families who also would have liked to have been mentioned in the book. The book contains many fascinating pictures and the history of the Greek-American community in San Francisco. I had no idea that the original Holy Trinity was the first Greek Orthodox church built west of Chicago. There are many interesting things to read about in this book; and I recommend this book to every Greek-American with San Francisco roots. Yassou!
