Description

A groundbreaking book by one of the worlds leading historians of Chinese architectureTranslated by Alexandra Harrer.Fu Xinian is considered by many to be the worlds leading historian of Chinese architecture. He is an expert on every type of Chinese architecture from every period through the nineteenth century; and his work is at the cutting edge of the field. Traditional Chinese Architecture gathers together; for the first time in English; twelve seminal essays by Fu Xinian. This wide-ranging book pays special attention to the technical aspects of the building tradition since the first millennium BC; and Fu Xinians signature drawings abundantly illustrate its nuances. The essays delve into the modular basis for individual structures; complexes; and cities; lateral and longitudinal building frames; the unity of sculpture and building to create viewing angles; the influence of Chinese construction on Japanese architecture; and the reliability of images to inform us about architecture. Organized chronologically; the book also examines such topics as the representation of architecture on vessels in the Warring States period; early Buddhist architecture; and the evolution of imperial architecture from the Tang to Ming dynasty. A biography of Fu Xinian and a detailed Chinese-English glossary are included.Bringing together some of the most groundbreaking scholarship in Chinese architectural history; Traditional Chinese Architecture showcases an uncontested master of the discipline.

WilsonI would recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn how to get full use out of their DSLR camera. The author owns both Nikon and Cannon cameras. but all of his writing is neutral to brand. which what he says is applicable no matter what model camera you have. Since he owns a Nikon and Cannon. he will give you some specific examples about how to do a specific function such as programming ISO settings. but the settings are usually similar from camera to camera. just like all Cars have steering wheels. brakes. and signals regardless of company. He covers everything from powering on the camera. storage. lenses. pros and cons of various lenses. lighting. filters. tripods. digital touch up software. shooting styles. and more. He also gives examples of how shots look under different settings. such as a subject shot under multiple F stop (aperture) settings. The book is written for anyone from beginners to mildly experienced amateurs. Everything is explained in a simple and understandable way as well as sometimes coupled with the technical explanation as well.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. An Excellent StartBy BookWorm620I bought this when I thought I was getting a DSLR as a gift. but it turned out to be an over featured point and shoot. Reading this book I was still able to apply a lot to the pictures I am taking with my fancy underachiever. and prepare for the day that I upgrade to a full DSLR.This book is an excellent starter. On a lot of the subjects covered will leave you wanting more detail perhaps. but that should just encourage you to read deeper in other books. This all in one covers just enough of each subject to give you and starting point and leads you in the correct directions. Its so comprehensive it will make you aware of many aspects you probably havent considered if your new at photography.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
