Infrastructural Lives is the first book to describe the everyday experience and politics of urban infrastructures. It focuses on a range of infrastructures in both the global South and North. The book examines how day-to-day experience and perception of infrastructure provides a new and powerful lens to view urban sustainability; politics; economics; cultures and ecologies. An interdisciplinary group of leading and emerging urban researchers examine critical questions about urban infrastructure in different global contexts. The chapters address water; sanitation; and waste politics in Mumbai; Kampala and Tyneside; analyse the use of infrastructure in the dispossession of Palestinian communities; explore the pacification of Riorsquo;s favelas in the run-up to the 2014 World Cup; describe how peoplersquo;s bodies and lives effectively operate as lsquo;infrastructurersquo; in many major cities; and also explores tentative experiments with low-carbon infrastructures. These diverse cases and perspectives are connected by a shared sense of infrastructure not just as a lsquo;thingrsquo;; a lsquo;systemrsquo;; or an lsquo;output;rsquo; but as a complex social and technological process that enables ndash; or disables ndash; particular kinds of action in the city. Infrastructural Lives is crucial reading for academics; researchers; students and practitioners in urban studies globally.

Seems to be more about the sameBy Barbara L.And geared more toward juvenile/young womens styles -If you are over 30 yo - you might have to think a little more couture with another book.Im looking for a book that goes beyond the basics; and more for a womanly figure (not ayoung girls style). In my opinion; fashion is geared toward the youth; but that doesntmean a older womans taste is any less in wanting to be stylish; and creating an outfitthat is more "with it" (for lack of a better word). Once youre over 30; making goodfashion decisions trying to be different becomes challenging because you dont want to looksilly; nor do you want to look like some copycat - but who doesnt want to stand out in a crowd with good taste?Altering clothing allows one to be expressive in their clothing - even if its a slight change; or making somethingnew from an outfit that has become out of date.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The instructions are ok in here but make me realize I need to take a class or two at the local sewing center to really have fun with upcylcing my unused clothing. I have lots of hope I will have projects turn out but for now I am just looking at most of the projects with a wary eye.
