[audiobook] DogJoy:nbsp; The Happiest Dogs in the Universe by The Editors of Bark at Arts-Photography

Description

The period from 1900 to 1914—the Edwardian Age—is often thought of as a golden time of country house parties and endless summers. In fact; it was a time of great social change. Wealthy industrialistswere building houses for their workers at Port Sunlight (Lever); Bournville (Cadbury) and New Earswick (Rowntree). The garden suburb was also being developed and seen as a way of clearing slum housing from big citiessuch as London and Liverpool. The Edwardians built a wide range of houses; from four-bedroomed semi-detached cottages to country houses and villas. Many had fashionable olde worlde facades and the latest technologyinside. The Arts and Craft style was particularly popular; as was architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Uisng his own drawings; diagrams and photographs; author Trevor Yorke explains; in an easy-to-understand fashion; all aspects ofthe Edwardian house; and provides a definitive guide for those who are renovating; tracing the history of their own house or simply interested in houses of the period. The book is divided into three sections. The first outlines thestory of the Edwardian Age and how its housing developed; with styles of the exterior being featured and discussed. The second looks at room layouts and fittings; and how they were used. The third gives details of places tovisit; a glossary of terms and brief notes to help pinpoint the exact date of these buildings.

"Dog Joy" to all who pick up the contagious book that smiles at you!By Megan Premuda-GallagherIf you want to smile and feel warm fuzzies this is the book for you. Years ago. when Bonnie Hunt. the comedian/actress had a talk show and said that this was her favorite book I wrote down the title of it and came across it last month on a little tablet I keep by the computer. I ordored it in time and it arrived before Christmas so I had a gift for myself and when it came my husband hid it from me so that I would have a surprize to open. What a delight this book has been! Its supposed to be dogs smiling.......some truly are and are to to be cherished and some just look like a dog panting! The narrative was cute and Im so glad that they included all the names of the dogs! Its a perfect little sized coffee table book and one that I have already lent to a friend that needed a little pick-me-up! Thats the book---plain and simple and full of loving happy pictures of mans best friend! I got it used from in like new condition for one cent! Why not indulge and treat yourself to a smile! I deserved it!9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. If you share your life with a dog or you just love their goofy grins. check out this book.By pug momIt is a definite treat to see my dog in this great collection. Each and every face looking out at you from these pages touches the heart and makes you smile. Dogs truly know how to live in the moment and at times I think we could learn a great deal from them if wed only pay attention. Give this book to someone sharing their life with a dog or someone who just appreciates the goofy grin of a dog sitting in the sun. The book will make you smile in any case as will the great captions that accompany the photographs. My dog is definitely a neighborhood celebrity too since appearing in DogJoy. She cant get enough of the attention. How will I ever live with Paula now?2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. For anyone who loves dogs!By D. WunderlichI love this book... and not just because my furkid. Abe. is in it! Flipping through this book is just fun. Each page elicits at least a grin if not an outright laugh. These dogs all look so sweet and happy.I love the idea of a personalized cover. though I did not get one. Might have to rethink that decision and get another!I wish I had remembered to post this before the holidays because the book is absolutely the perfect gift for that hard-to-shop-for person who happens to love dogs. Keep it in mind for birthdays. mothers day. fathers day. or just because I was thinking of you days. And get one for yourself. too! If youre a dog person. you wont regret it.
