[ePub] Donne di un anno tranquillo (Italian Edition) by Luciana Chiesi De Fornari in Arts-Photography

Description

Mid-century prison band music in Texas is a fairly obscure piece of history; yet it ultimately had such a powerful impact on the music that followed that its incredible that no one has explored the topic before. Luckily; Caroline Gnagy took on the job. The author approaches her subject with great care; a sharp eye for detail and an obvious passion for the humanity behind the stories. She treats the subjects of her book as multi-faceted and creative human beings first; and prisoners second. Its a fascinating link in the timeline of American music; and a compelling study; not just in music and music history; but in how humans cope with hardship and find (or create) the light in some of the darkest of places.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fascinating Glimpse of Forgotten Era of HistoryBy Penny ClarkAn important book on Texas prisons! Gnagy does an excellent job of giving a balanced account of men and women who had difficulties; made mistakes; ended up in Texas prisons but still managed to perform for appreciative audiences. She is unflinching in revealing the horrors of Texas prisons--especially forced hysterectomies which were designed to keep undesirables from reproducing! The photos are a real plus. Cant wait for her next book!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I received the book in a timely fashion and enjoyed it.
