Almost two hundred years after they were “purchasedrdquo; from Greece; the finest and most famous marbles of antiquity still remain a burning issue. This compelling; controversial story of the Elgin marbles re-creates in full and colorful detail “the greatest art theft in history;rdquo; a steamy tale of obsession; intrigue; adultery; and ruin. As the British ambassador to the Sublime Porte in Constantinople; Lord Elgin encountered in his endeavors some of the most famous names of nineteenth-century history: Napoleon; Sultan Selim III; Lord Nelson; Lord Byron; and Keats. Drawing on original source material—letters; diaries; official government reports; and memoranda; Vrettos brilliantly brings to life these fascinating stories.

There were a couple that sort of left out a lot of steps (like that "draw the f-ing owl" meme) but if you keep at it. you can improvise on those. I am a beginner-ish. I used to draw years ago and mostly. things from sight. but never got the foundation of the basics. so this helped me a lot. It made it a lot easier and manageable rather than just drawing from sight. I learned a lot and really love the types of flowers in this book. so it was really motivating for me to want to draw them. The book size is really large. I would like it smaller so I can put it in a bag and draw later. but other than that. it is a great book.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. well done for practiceBy birdmomhelpful nicely put together--good basic instruction and practice--especially if you need to brush up on drawing skills.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
