A news media frenzy hurled the quiet resort community of Pinehurst into the national spotlight in 1935 when hotel magnate Ellsworth Statlers adopted daughter was discovered dead early one February morning weeks after her wedding day. A politically charged coroners inquest failed to determine a definitive cause of death; and the following civil action continued to expose sordid details of the couples lives. More than half a century later; the story was all but forgotten when local resident Diane McLellan spied an old photograph at a yard sale and became obsessed with solving the mystery. Her enthusiastic sleuthing captured the attention of Southern Pines resident and journalist Steve Bouser; who takes readers back to those blustery winter days so long ago in the search to reveal what really happened to Elva Statler Davidson.

SchoenherrWhile browsing around for some paleo-artist type books (in other words: coffe table picture books) I stumbled upon this one. At first I didnt think it was worth it; but then the hidden artist in me was curoius enough to see how artists go about this kind of subject; especiallly utillizing digital technology. In that reagrds it really is a little treasure trove of information; hints and ideas on how to compose and finalize pictures digitally. The book provides plenty of samples of both the final result; and some of the intermediate stages in creating a picture. So be advised: this is NOT A PICTURE BOOK; though it has plenty of those; but a guide on how to create such pictures. As such it provides realtively little in terms of actual paleontological science.6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Great Book On How to Draw Fantasy Style Creatures.By CustomerI havent written a review in a long time; but I feel that I have to put things straight from the first reviewer. Mr. OConnor is a fantasy artist; not a Paleoartist. The purpose of his books is to show people the process of creating a fantasy style drawing from initial pencils; to coloring; rendering; and shading; using a computer program like Photoshop Suite. Taken for this process; this is an excellent book; much like his other fantasy art books that preceded it. It should not be taken as a correct anatomical guide any more than a comic book art book should. This is a great book for creating good looking fantasy style drawings of dinosaurs; which techniques can also be used for other fantasy animals as well. If you are looking for a book for these reasons; I would highly recommend this book.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
