Drawing from Within: Using Art to Treat Eating Disorders

[PDF] Drawing from Within: Using Art to Treat Eating Disorders by Lisa Hinz at Arts-Photography

Description

In this classic text Art Robbins explores the role of the art therapist in integrating aesthetics and psychodynamics into the therapeutic process. He argues that psychological phenomena have their aesthetic counterparts; and that incorporating these elements facilitates the therapeutic process. The artist in the therapist responds to the patients use of colour; space; form and energy; the therapist uses his or her artists reaction to ascertain the psychodynamics of the piece.Drawing on his extensive experience as a psychoanalyst; psychologist; art therapist and sculptor; Robbins weaves together object relations theory and principles of art to create a more cohesive understanding of therapeutic treatment. Now reissued by Jessica Kingsley Publishers; The Artist as Therapist integrates art and psychology and has profound implications for all those working in these fields.

I have been looking all over for a comprehensive art therapy guide specifically for ED.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Schiller-HannaI love brilliant therapists. with deep insight. great experience and anecdotes. who share truly useful and applicable methods. and areclear teachers. Thats why I love this book. It is a Graduate School level course book. but applicable to the layman. I walk the line between the two worlds. I have counseled thousands using intuition (am a professional psychic). and this author has all thoseskills (brilliant intuition). life experience. knowledge. and the skills to share them cleanly and clearly with the rest of us. I have food and weight issues (not so extreme as bulimia or anorexia). but severe enough to have suffered more than 20 years of overweight/borderline obesity. In a few short days. this book has blown the lid off my disorder. given me new and brilliant and useable tools to clear my mind. body and soul of sixty years of pain. I bow down to the author with deepest gratitude. I amtelling EVERYONE about this book and many are buying and applying it with similar joyful results. I cant recommend this morehighly.
