This is the sort of illustration that I simply cannot pass up. The cloth-bound cover and classic fairy tale ensured that this needed to be the latest addition to my bookshelf. And that is where it proudly sits. The Snow Queen made its way into my life at a very young age; and permanently earned a spot among my favorite fairy tales. I used to lay in bed at night and excitedly turn through the pages of my large collection of Hans Christian Andersen. I slowly slipped into a winter wonderland as I read about Gerdarsquo;s journey to bring the young neighbor boy; Kay home. The story itself contains a beautiful message of love; loyalty and sacrifice. First published in 1844 and one of Andersenrsquo;s longest fairy tales; elements of Christianity and friendship are woven together into a magical adventure to remind us that even the coldest of hearts can be thawed by the love and faith of others. One does not have to hold religious beliefs though to appreciate the significance of this endearing tale.ldquo; No power that I could give could be as great as that which she already has. Donrsquo;t you see how men and beasts are compelled to serve her; and how far she has come in the wide world since she started out in her naked feet? We mustnrsquo;t tell her about this power. Strength lies in her heart; because she is such a sweet; innocent child.rdquo;-Hans Christian Andersen; The Snow QueenMany are familiar with Hans Christian Andersen and The Snow Queen. When I requested this lovely title; my intentions were to review this particular edition with the new illustrations. Everything I can remember as a young girl about Gredarsquo;s travels holds true in this copy. While many films and books are believed to be have been loosely based on the this story (The White Witch in C.S. Lewisrsquo;s The Lion; the Witch; and the Wardrobe; Disneyrsquo;s Frozen and various retellings) this is the tale as I remember it.Beautifully revived with the magnificent illustrations of Sanna Annukka; every other page of this beloved story is bursting with exquisitely detailed artwork. A new-found joy has been added to an already endearing and entertaining read. I found this to be a wonderful addition to my collection and a must for all who enjoy fairy tales. The whimsical tale is about two best friends who live next door to each otherBy LenoireThe whimsical tale is about two best friends who live next door to each other. One day; the boy becomes cursed and is unable to see goodness in the world. He is kidnapped by the Snow Queen who keeps him prisoner in her ice palace. The little girl goes on the journey to free her friends cold heart. Will the little girl be able to save her friend? Will the two friends be able to reunite? As a child; my favorite stories were "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling". When I saw they were releasing a beautiful illustrated copy of the book; I knew I had to get my hands on it. The book was a quick hour read but was very fun and engaging. The artwork took the story to new level. While; some parts might not be suitable for young readers; I can see how it can be a childhood favorite. The whimsical tale is about two best friends who live next door to each other. The Snow Queen who is Not ElsaBy K32531You know I have never really been a fan of Hans Christian Andersenrsquo;s writings. I always find his stores a little too depressing for my taste. I knew the basic story for lsquo; The Snow Queen A Tale in Seven Storiesrsquo; by Hans Christian Andersen and Illustrated by Sanna Annukka.Yes its the story of the snow queen (no not Elsa from Frozen). The story seems to be a shortened version of the tale. The story is so/sohellip; therersquo;s nothing I can really add to it.However the drawings for this book are fantastic. So much detail and so well done. I almost wish there had been more drawings then text.So if your really into fairytales; or into Hans Christian Andersenrsquo;s writings or just want to read the non Frozen story then give it a tryhellip;but your eyes are very easily drawn away from the story and to the amazing drawings. In the end it comes down like this. The snow queen story I would give a low rating because Irsquo;ve never been/or will be a fan of it but the drawings are what drew me to the book. Story no; drawings yes.I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
