Dunbar (Images of America)

[ePub] Dunbar (Images of America) by Dunbar Historical Society at Arts-Photography

Description

American communities are changing fast: ethnic minority populations are growing; home ownership is falling; the number of people per household is going up; and salaries are going down. According to Marc Brenman and Thomas W. Sanchez; the planning field is largely unprepared for these fundamental shifts. If planners are going to adequately serve residents of diverse ages; races; and income levels; they need to address basic issues of equity. Planning as if People Matter offers practical solutions to make our communities more livable and more equitable for all residents. While there are many books on environmental justice; relatively few go beyond theory to give real-world examples of how better planning can level inequities. In contrast; Planning as if People Matter is written expressly for planning practitioners; public administrators; policy-makers; activists; and students who must directly confront these challenges. It provides new insights about familiar topics such as stakeholder participation and civil rights. And it addresses emerging issues; including disaster response; new technologies; and equity metrics. Far from an academic treatment; Planning as if People Matter is rooted in hard data; on-the-ground experience; and current policy analysis. In this tumultuous period of economic change; there has never been a better time to reform the planning process. Brenman and Sanchez point the way toward a more just social landscape.

Vintage Photos and HistoryBy CustomerThe book. available now in written and Kindle format. contains a wonderful history and clear vintage photos of this small Southwestern Pennsylvania town. Located between Connellsville and Uniontown. Pennsylvania. Dunbar is located along the Sheepskin Trail...the first spur off of the Great Allegheny Passage. The book text is straight-forward and very descriptive and the photos used truly capture the significant history of Dunbar. The Kindle edition (I have a DX) is just great and the photos show up amazingly clear. I was a little worried that the black and white photos may not show up well but the clarity is just great. I absolutely love my larger Kindle and am thrilled to find this book in Kindle format.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Snapshots of Another Era in Dunbar. PABy LindaAs with other publications in the "Images of America" series. this book doesnt contain an exhaustive history of the town its highlighting. That said. its still pretty great for anyone whod like to catch a glimpse of what life in Dunbar. PA looked like at the turn of the last century. There are plenty of photos and the related anecdotes are interesting: very "slice of life." The book translates nicely in the Kindle format too. Glad I bought it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Three StarsBy Barbara BolandI was hoping for more in detail information but it was fine
