In recent years; site-specific dance has grown in popularity. In the wake of groundbreaking work by choreographers who left traditional performance spaces for other venues; more and more performances are cropping up on skyscrapers; in alleyways; on trains; on the decks of aircraft carriers; and in a myriad of other unexpected locations worldwide. In Site Dance; the first anthology to examine site-specific dance; editors Melanie Kloetzel and Carolyn Pavlik explore the work that choreographers create for nontraditional performance spaces and the thinking behind their creative choices. Combining interviews with and essays by some of the most prominent and influential practitioners of site dance; they look at the challenges and rewards of embracing alternative spaces. The close examinations of the work of artists like Meredith Monk; Joanna Haigood; Stephan Koplowitz; Heidi Duckler; Ann Carlson; and Eiko Otake provide important insights into why choreographers leave the theatre to embrace the challenges of unconventional venues.Site Dance also includes more than 80 photographs of site-specific performances; revealing how the arts; and movement in particular; can become part of and speak to our everyday lives. Celebrating the often unexpected beauty and juxtapositions created by site dance; the book is essential reading for anyone curious about the way that these choreographers are changing our experience of the world one step at a time.

A very basic ebook with vivid pictures; I really wish they would go into greater detail; but it is free so its hard to complainBy ElizabethAnother Baby Professor book with vivid pictures. There are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book. The format for this book is the same as most of the Baby Professor books in this series which have a picture with a paragraph and facts on one page. Then the next page is just a photo. It would be nice if they had another paragraph on that page too.Overall; I do love theses books although it would be nice if the books went into more detail but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject.I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes watch a friends 3 year old daughter and she likes to look through the pictures on my phone. I plan on showing her these books to keep her entertained. I think she will love them.***** I received this ebook for free for my honest review. ******0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Stunning photos and a great primer on Chinese New YearBy luvamiChinese New Year officially ended on the fourteenth of February this year. Even though I am Chinese by ethnicity; being raised in the UK meant that although we celebrated Chinese New Year; we didnrsquo;t go all out with the traditions. For instance; Chinese New Year is a two week holiday in China with each day having a special significance; i;e. the thirteenth day is when everyone must eat vegetarian food.Chinese New Year for Kids by Speedy Publishing has some stunning photos of some things associated with Chinese New Year such as lion dances; fireworks and lanterns. Some of the pictures have a brief statements on certain subjects such as firecrackers and fireworks scare off evil spirits. I loved of the dish known as lsquo;Nian gohrsquo; or water chestnut cake; made me hungry. The descriptions in the book are a little brief and sparse; and doesnrsquo;t encompass the vast history and traditions of Chinese New Year. However; it gives impetus to curious kids and adults alike inspiration to perhaps google more about Chinese New Year. This book was given to me at a substantial discount for my honest and unbiased review. [...] Gong Hei Fat Choy!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. ... Great timing. One thing I like about the speedy publishing books sold by Baby Professor is that they are e books. I can log in to my account at work and have access to this book which I can then share with my students via smartboard. This type of technology allows my students to be able to read along with me as I share the book to the class; as well as giving students a clearer look at the photographs in the book.I thought this book was lovely and did a fairly good job describing what Chinese New Year is like as well as some of the customs and traditions. I wish it had went more into depth on some of the traditions but I feel as if this is a good stepping stone for beginning readers to learn about Chinas culture and traditions.I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for your honest and unbiased review.
