Il trattato del Vasari fu pubblicato nel 1550 ed ebbe uno straordinario successo che spinse lautore a curare una seconda edizione ampliamente ingrandita e revisionata; pubblicata nel 1568.Egrave; il primo libro organico di storia dellarte che ci sia pervenuto; noncheacute; la fonte; spesso unica; di notizie biografiche degli artisti a cavallo tra Medioevo e Rinascimento; noncheacute; di informazioni su opere darte magari oggi disperse; perdute o distrutte. Appassionato e meticoloso; Vasari peccograve; talvolta di eccessiva enfasi letteraria nel tracciare gli sviluppi dellarte e i rapporti tra gli artisti. Gli studi successivi sul testo vasariano (tra cui quello scrupoloso di Gaetano Milanesi del 1848) hanno tuttavia circoscritto gli errori e le notizie rivelatesi fasulle (dovute spesso a quella creduloneria che ingannograve; molti storici del passato); restituendo il pieno valore del testo; che non solo influenzograve; il giudizio in materia darte fino a buona parte del XIX secolo; ma egrave; tuttoggi unimprescindibile e citatissima.

Great oral history!By Ellen MeloniI have never been to Reston; nor did I know Mr Simon; however; I hold a degree in Anthropology and oral histories have always been among my favorites to read. Kristina has created the perfect blend of historical facts combined with Mr. SImons delightful and fascinating recollections. It made me wish I had known this legend myself. The book is a well rounded view of his life from his childhood; to college; the army; his days at Carnegie Hall and then what seems to be his greatest labor of love; developing and creating his vision for the town of Reston. Kristina has done a great service for Reston and I think Mr. SImon would be very proud and honored to see this book in print. Because of his rather expansive background history and the tales he had to tell; I think anyone would enjoy this book; regardless of whether they lived in Reston or knew Mr. SImon personally. As a former Manhattanite and a realtor of longstanding; the various elements of his Carnegie Hall involvement and his development of Reston were particularly interesting! I highly recommend this story of a contemporary Renaissance man!
