Although inspired. it could have done with some editing. the numerous sentences in brackets were excessive and it may have benefited from being less anecdotal. overall a good effort and certainly helps outline some of Rohmers singular methods of filmmaking.4 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Celebrate Eacute;ric Rohmer with a Biography that Lives up to the ArtistBy CWCWith many filmmakers. such as John Ford or Howard Hawks. both of whom Rohmer valued quite a lot as a Cahiers critic. a kind of cult of personality. supported by anecdotes about the directors lives results. But I must admit that with Antoine de de Baecques Eacute;ric Rohmer: A Biography I truly began to learn about one of my favorite filmmakers. Upon receiving this book I was aware solely of Rohmers Catholicism. I knew little of his day to day life. His style. a kind of cinematic naturalism. devoid of embellishment. in which quite ordinary life events play out with quite seamless acting. fits the current "style-free." or hidden-style zeitgeist going on in the work of literary author Karl Ove Knaussguard. All I know is at an age when the plottishness of cinema grew trite. as did the experimentalism of Rohmer acolyte Godard. Rohmers films were like a palette-cleansing breath of fresh air. quite welcome.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. No conclusions to the moment.By IshmaelCollaboration and intervention. Eacute;ric helped create and move a good amount of ideals into life with energy and aspiration. Antoine makes engrossed suggestions about how certain things about Eacute;ric Rohmer where in place and other things where not in place. They where constructed in the moment of being needed. The beauty and trouble from something such as this is amazing to behold as well as the breath and body of work.
