Around Orange Lake portrays the history of the lake and the adjoining locales of Gardnertown and Meadow Hill. The only natural lake for miles; Orange Lake was the location of a Colonial coinage mill; a source of power for many early industrial ventures; and home to one of the East Coasts most famous amusement parks. In the late 1800s; cabins began to dot its shores; and by the 1920s; bungalow colonies flourished; with cottages that today have become substantial year-round homes. The lake also hosted famous personalities; including a Boston Tea Party participant; an early pilot; and a former governor. Their stories and others are intertwined with the history of the lake to create a picture of a very unique community.

Important historical documentation of Eastern NC - Great ReadBy BizShopperEdgecombe County Along the Tar is an important part of colonial Eastern North Carolina history itself. Part of the Making of America Series. Monika S. Fleming makes this a fun. easy read about the real people that built the Edgecombe County towns including Tarboro and Princeville. the first all black US town incorporated in 1885. That in itself is a really great story. Fleming has obviously worked hard finding excellent documentation from hundreds of various reliable sources. Formatted in chronological order. she starts with the Eighteenth Century leading right into the Post-Hurricane Floyd visit from President Clinton in 1999. This 2003 copyrighted edition offers great reading and a treasure of historical information. Great book. Thanks to the seller for making this available.
