Edward Hopper in Vermont

[ebooks] Edward Hopper in Vermont by Bonnie Tocher Clause at Arts-Photography

Description

An amazing assortment of electric trolley lines once traversed the towns and villages of Queens and Long Island. With names like Jamaica Central; Northport Traction; Ocean Electric; and the Steinway lines; some meandered across meadows and hills while others sped over elevated tracks. There was even one line that had streetcars but no tracks. In the end; all of them helped stitch the countryside into the concentrated suburban area it is todaywith barely a trace of the trolleys left anywhere.

Many of us have grown up musing in front of Hoppers urban paintings. wondering what he was thinking or feeling as he painted these somber scenes. Bonnie Tocher Clause introduces us to a whole new Hopper--one who spent several summers in rural Vermont. Ms Clause traces Hoppers time in Vermont and unravels his history there like a true mystery tale. We also get to see the marvelous landscape paintings he made over those summers in the countryside. many of which weve never seen before. This is a a delightful read----marvelously written and beautifully illustrated. A true delight.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
