Experiencing Led Zeppelin: A Listener's Companion

[audiobook] Experiencing Led Zeppelin: A Listener's Companion by Gregg Akkerman in Arts-Photography

Description

Moroccan garment design and consumption have experienced major shifts in recent history; transforming from a traditional craft-based enterprise to a thriving fashion industry. Influenced by western fashion; dress has become commoditized and has expanded from tailoring to designer labels. This book presents the first detailed ethnographic study of Moroccan fashion.Drawing on interviews with three generations of designers and the lifestyle press; the author provides an in-depth analysis of the development of urban dress; which reveals how traditional dress has not been threatened but rather produced and consumed in different ways. With chapters examining themes such as dress and politics; gender; faith; modernity; and exploring topics from craft to e-fashion; this book will be essential reading for students and scholars of fashion; anthropology; material culture; sociology; cultural studies; gender studies and related fields.

David Hatcher Childress ... what can I say ... if you are into the weird; this is read for you; not a Hunter Thompson but closeBy Brewer GI like David Hatcher Childress.Anyone who can make a living feeding the appetites of the Ancient Alien Theorists crowd; getting to travel the world on someone elses nickel; stay out of corporate America; be on TV (even it is the Discovery Channel); have weird friends like Giorgio Tsoukalos (The hair Dude) and Von Daniken; write a zillion books by recycling parts of his other books (he must be a word processing Wiz); and have book stores all over the world that he can visit and write it off as a business expense; IS A GENUS IN MY BOOK.The book is about him; how he got to be who he is; things and places he has done/visited; etc. This does not compare w/a biography of Einstein; Jefferson; etc because he not in their league by any means. But he is a semi-infamous public figure who; for the his unique milieu; is interesting (at least for me; hes not to everyones taste but then my tastes are slightly askew anyway). If you have ever gotten hooked on the alternative thinking involved in the Discovery Channels weird ass offerings then you have to know D.H.C. ("... it kinda makes you want to wonder ..."; you have to have seen him to get the reference) he is a force in the conspiracy world. And a fun one at that.I dont know if I would recommend this book as a purchase unless you are into the unconventional; fringe modes of thinking.I find the outre interesting and amusing. There are way too many people taking themselves way too seriously and trying to drag the rest of us along with them into their PC; narrow thinking; sheltered; gated community nirvanas.David aint one of them and I applaud him for that.Read at your own risk (you have been warned about wasting your money).0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great giftBy barbara e douglassI bought this for a relative; an avid fan of "Ancient Aliens" TV series on History 2 channel. He was thrilled to open the book as a present. I then went to speak at a conference in Virginia Beach; only to find that David Hatcher Childress was a speaker at the same time at a weekend conference at the ARE; a few miles from our weeklong conference. The book as a gift was well appreciated by a fan of Davids. My relative loved the narrative style of the book and is avidly consuming it now. Kudos. Great book for your "Ancient Aliens" fan as well.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. He Cracks Me Up!!By Violet BunnyDavid Childress at his most hilarious. Very entertaining.
