DeutschFabricating Architecture: Selected Readings in Digital Design and Manufacturing. edited by Robert Corser. includes a collection of seminal essays on the topic by construction industry experts including Eddy Krygiel (co-author of Mastering Autodesk Revit Architecture 2011. Green BIM among other books.) James Glymph (partner at Frank Gehrys architecture firm and CEO of Gehry Technologies.) and the extraordinary Kiel Moe amongst 13 other lluminaries. The opening foreword provides an excellent overview of the subject and the introduction does a great job of placing the topic in context. In fact. the opening words of the foreword ("A design process that incorporates the full range of digital technologies is a joy to behold.") ought to be a shot heard around the AEC world today. The brief introductions to each essay help to situate it and assists the reader in getting a grasp of what the author is advocating. The writing throughout is exceptional. The black and white images are a bit small and sparse - but the strength of the writing overcomes what otherwise might be considered a weakness in an architecture-related text. especially one on the topic of building technology.A similarly titled book this may bring to mind for architects and students alike is Refabricating Architecture: How Manufacturing Methodologies are Poised to Transform Building Construction by Stephen Kieran. James Timberlake - two architect/authors amply represented in an essay in Fabricating Architecture.Another book on a similar theme that you might enjoy - and in fact is the perfect book to accompany this one - is Building (in) the Future: Recasting Labor in Architecture. edited by Phillip Bernstein and Peggy Deamer. an equally strong collection of essays by industry leaders. theorists. and academics on how both individuals and the profession itself can go about repositioning themselves for the future.I cannot recommend Fabricating Architecture - and Building (in) the Future - enough.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
