My one criticism would be that it is all hand drawn art by the author....no reproductions of portraits or the like. But the drawings do tell the story and there a goodly number of them. White there is a lot of historical information about the periods as well as descriptions of the costumes of the day the author writes in what I would call a conversational tone. Its like she was sitting next to you giving you a trove of information. Im really enjoying it. DeRisoI used this book for a few classes during my undergrad program in tech thea. This book was a savior. It breaks down the eras into genders and styles into specific articles. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in costuming and fashion history. I feel it does give brief overviews of some parts but there are always other books to reference for more detailed information.
