Fearless Color Gardens: The Creative Gardener's Guide to Jumping Off the Color Wheel

[audiobook] Fearless Color Gardens: The Creative Gardener's Guide to Jumping Off the Color Wheel by Keeyla Meadows at Arts-Photography

Description

When; how and why do clothes become fashion? Fashion is more than mere clothing. It is a moment of invention; a distillation of desire; a reflection of a zeitgeist. It is also a business relying on an intricate network of manufacture; marketing and retail. Fashion is both medium and message but it does not explain itself. It requires language and images for its global mediation. It develops from the prescience of the designer and is dependent on acceptance by observers and wearers alike. When Clothes Become Fashion explores the structures and strategies which underlie fashion innovation; how fashion is perceived and the point at which clothing is accepted or rejected as fashion. The book provides a clear theoretical framework for understanding the world of fashion - its aesthetic premises; plurality of styles; performative impulses; social qualities and economic conditions.

I spent hours pouring over the text and fabulous photos. I enjoy her use of colors and various plant materials and adore the garden art and seating pieces she creates. What a joy to own.9 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Not for gardenersBy S. HudakThis books talks about colors; the color chart: primary colors. secondary colors; the meaning of colors. but what it doesnt talk about is how to implement those wonderful colors in your garden. The author spends a lot of time talking about her personal experiences with color. It is essentially a collection of essays about color -- and not very well written essays either. I expected to learn how to incorporate the brilliant colors of the color wheel into the garden; which plants work best with each other; some exciting new combinations. None of that happened. To the books credit. there are wonderful pictures of colorful containers and a few plants combos that are worthwhile. Garden art is a strong component in the book. With that said. Meadows does show us lots of pictures of very colorful gardens so that is a positive. Otherwise. this was a waste of my money and reading time.13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Pretty Pretty PrettyBy AuroraThis is an art concept book... not a gardening book. That said. if you dont know how to apply color in gardens. its gorgeous and will inspire you.Dont expect consideration of plants.... in this world. theyre chosen to match your color palette. not because they will thrive (or even live!) in the available environment. If youre afraid of color. if youre already a gardener (or willing to channel one) go for it. If youre looking for more guidance about integrating real plants. art and real gardens. keep looking.
