One of the most popular poems in the English language; Edgar Allan Poes "The Raven" has thrilled generations of readers. In 1882; the Anglo-American artist James Carling decided to produce the definitive series of illustrations for the poem. Carlings bizarre images explore the darkest recesses of Poes masterpiece; its hidden symbolism and its strange beauty. Although the series remained unpublished at the time of the artists early death in 1887; the drawings reemerged fifty years later; when they entered the collection of the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond. There they lined the blood-red walls of a Raven Room dedicated to their display. For the first time; author and Poe historian Christopher P. Semtner reproduces the entire series and tells the story behind these haunting works.

I was very excited to receive but was a little disappointed when I saw the book because it was a little dirty and had some finger marks on the cover. Other then that it was in perfect condition. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. GREAT read!By EmI picked up this book because Im a HUGE Kings of Leons fan! There musics phenomenal and I have all their mp3s. I picked up the book to read over the holidays and couldnt put it down. The books writing is GREAT and its so vivid; that throughout the entire reading; I vividly saw this as a movie playing in my head! I truly hope the Kings of Leon; along with the author; come to an accord so that this can be made into a movie! Im not sure itd happen; I think the Kings would be too shy or humble for that; but hey; one can hope!
