John Drysdales photographs are exciting; tender; hilarious; often exhilarating - but for more than the obvious reasons. Certainly its not every day that one sees a lion thats befriended a Boston terrier. Maybe elephants dont usually go fishing; and parrots generally dont tend to lounge around in beach chairs; next to their human companions. But in the "peaceable kingdom" of John Drysdale; surprisingly unique alliances flourish. His photographs are whimsical and charming; but also carry a very important; necessary truth - the essential bonds of friendship transcend appearances; expectations; and traditions. Cats can love mice; bulldogs can rear squirrels; and foxes can protect chicks. With a refreshingly honest eye; Drysdale has captured the many ways in which the creatures that inhabit the earth bring one another comfort and happiness. Never mind that a burro and a boy are curled up on the sofa; or that a chimpanzee is sunbathing with his human family by the pool. Friendship is where you find it. The familiarity and love expressed in Drysdales work is heartfelt and very real - as the endnotes explain; the exotic animals that are his subjects were often orphaned as babies; and reared along with the humans and other animals in the photographs.Since his earliest photographs of children frolicking on the cobblestoned streets of London; Drysdales wonderfully illustrious career has spanned close to fifty years. And in Our Peaceable Kingdom; for the first time; 100 of his most memorable images are collected in one beautiful volume; destined to become a favorite on the shelves of children; adults; animal lovers; and anyone who appreciates a good friend.

I currently teach a multiage classroom of 1st and 2nd graders with varying ability levels from non readers to students reading at or above a 5th grade level. This is a simple book in terms of text features. This is disappointing. But I was thinking about it...we have many older male student who struggling with reading-especially nonfiction. If this book was used (and some of the other "Baby Professor" books (just dont tell them that)- they wouldnt be as embarrassed reading a lower level book. And I am talking about middle-high school students. My rating: 5 STARS!What or if I would use this for: I would use this to teach the skill of context clues to find the meaning of words and phrases. In terms of a non-fiction book; It is lack luster in terms of text features- as there really arent any! It ends very quickly; with no conclusion; even though there was an introduction. I would also keep it in my science center for students to use as a resource. I would also put it in my writing center to give students topics to write about. What my students thought: There were a lot of squeals from the girls (and some boys) in my class when I read them this book. THEY LOVED THE PHOTOGRAPHS. I did notice that a few pages a borrowed from another Baby Professor book.Quality of photographs or illustrations: The photographs are stunning! I love how close up and detailed they are.Depth of knowledge: This is fairly straight forward in terms of a fact book.Text quality: I like the size and that it is in different positions on pages. Many of my students would be able to read this book by the end of the year- minus a few of the vocabulary words.╰☆╮஠I did get a discount for my honest review of this Jungle Book for Kids: Scary Animals of The Jungle: Wildlife Books for Kids (Childrens Animal Books) Kindle Edition (which I did not use on a kindle I used the kindle cloud on the Promethean board so all students could view it at the same time). I test all products before reviewing them. I am ALWAYS honest in the reviews I give. I will not give 5 stars unless I think it is accurate in the description and high quality. My kids absolutely love science but science with animals are their favorite. This book fit both bills.Ive gotten other books from this series that Ive liked and this one didnt disappoint. The pictures are clear showing each animal in detail. Although I got this book for its information on jungle animals I love it for its pictures. The pictures show the animals up close with a lot of details. I enjoy the real life pictures over drawn ones. The pictures have more details. Each picture had my son rJungle Book for Kids: Scary Animals of The Jungle: Wildlife Books for Kids (Childrens Animal Books)eaching out to touch it as if he could feel them. He enjoyed each page of animal facts and walked around the rest of the day spouting animal facts to anyone whod listen. This book was one of several I had gotten to take with us to a soccer tournament for my oldest to keep my youngest entertained. My six year old is known for his restlessness but this book kept his attention along with other kids his age. They oood and ahhhd over the animals loving the vivid colors of the dart frog. This book was full of animals that were both familiar and new ones. I was surprised that I learned a couple of things.I prefer the versatility of the digital book over a hard copy. When I take my kids places I need several distractions as we are usually at sporting events for several hours. If one book isnt holding their attention I can quickly switch to another one. My kids also use books liek this one as a reference so its nice to have them in one places. At the sporting event I recommended this book along with a couple others to a few moms whos kids ended up listening and participation with the reading. I received this book at a free or reduced price to provide a honest and unbiased review.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very cute; basic ebook offered for free. Great pictures; just wish they went into more detail or added more animals.By ElizabethAnother Baby Professor book with vivid pictures. There are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book.I like this particular book. The format for this book is the same as most of the Baby Professor books in this series which have a picture with a paragraph and facts on one page. Then the next page is just a photo. It would be nice if they had another paragraph on that page too.Overall; I do like theses books for their wonderful pictures. It would be nice if the books went into more detail but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject.I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes watch a friends 3 year old daughter and she likes to look through the pictures on my phone. I plan on showing her these books to keep her entertained. I think she will love them.***** I received this ebook for free in exchange for my honest review. *****
