Description

What was it about Bob Marley that made him so popular in a world dominated by rock n roll? How is it that he not only has remained the single most successful reggae artist ever; but also has become a shining beacon of radicalism and peace to generation after generation of fans? The man who introduced reggae to a worldwide audience; Marley was a hero figure in the classic; mythological sense. From immensely humble beginnings; with talent and religious belief his only weapons; the Jamaican recording artist applied himself with unstinting perseverance to spreading his prophetic musical message across the globe. In 1980; on tour; Bob Marley and the Wailers played to the largest audiences a musical act had ever experienced in Europe. Less than a year later; Marley would die; only thirty-six years old. Sales of Marleys albums before his death were spectacular; in the years since he died; they have been phenomenal. Chris Salewicz; the bestselling author of Redemption Song; the classic biography of Joe Strummer; interviewed Bob Marley in Jamaica in 1979. Now; for the first time; in this thorough; detailed account of Marleys life and the world in which he grew up and which he came to dominate; Salewicz brings to life not only the Rastafari religion and the musical scene in Jamaica; but also the spirit of the man himself. Interviews with dozens of people who knew Marley and have never spoken before are woven through the narrative as Salewicz seeks to explain why Marley has become such an enigmatic and heroic figure; loved by millions all over the world.

I was given the download free of charge so that I could read it and leave a review. The books in this line of educational products are phenomenal. They contain beautiful pictures of the subject of the book. The download is available via the Kindle app to view on all your electronic devices. It works well on my android table. It is not compatible with my basic Kindle reader so thats something to be aware of. The publisher has listed a large number of educational books to download and view. The download is a sampling of what is in the printed book. Its nice to be able to check the book out before buying it.This particular book explores the jungle. It starts by describing the vegetation there; along with the dense trees and ferns. It goes on the describe the climate; then gets to the animals you find in the jungle. The pictures are great quality and beautiful. It doesnt capture my interest as well as the other books in this series though. I love jungle animals and enjoy reading about them. There arent many shown in the digital copy of this book. It was a bit of a let down. It does have lots of information for a childs curiosity. The pictures are beautiful and tie in well with the information to make it easy for a child to remember. The cutest part is the picture of a colorful frog. Third graders would find this book enjoyable but maybe not as many younger children. Its more instructional than visual in my opinion.I hope this review has been helpful to you. Download the book and give it a try!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Jungle life?By MayaAs usual with this publisher this is a short book with a lot of editing issues from capitalization to leaving wordsout of sentences. There is some confusion as to what grade level this is meant for. Most of the book is fairlylow level vocabulary and then suddenly there is "endemic." I doubt many children know what that means and Ialso am sure there are adults who would need to look up the definition. There are some strangely wordedsentences that leave you wondering what the author meant. The photos were mostly very nice. In the beginningof the book they are mostly pictures of trees and plant life and later of some of the animals that live in the jungles.I found it interesting that we are learning about the jungle and the author makes a point of talking about theleaves and never talks about specific trees or plants; only animals. I asked my kids to look at this book and theolder three did read it. None wanted it sent to their Kindles because they said it really was pretty boring and theyknew more about jungles than was in the book. My kids read a lot and have always done so. I taught them beforethey turned 4 years old and due to that they all read many levels higher than their peers and they love to read. The youngest child thought the animal pictures were nice; but did not comment on the jungle pictures.Overall; it is an ok book but I would rather choose another for my kids.I received this book free in exchange for my honest review.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Awesome Reading GraphicsBy J. HawkinsMORE.... we need more books like these; please keep these coming !! Wonderful series of books !! Our son absolutely loves these and I love hearing him not only reading; but wanting to read more !! Thank you for writing such interesting books with incredible graphics and amazing facts. We load books to his kindle and take it along everywhere we go. Hes enjoyed these books so much; he not only reads them; but he reads aloud; makes comments as hes reading (and we can hear the excitement in his voice) as he discovers new things and asks tons of questions; which leads to reading yet more books from the series. Wonderful inspiration to young readers and those not yet reading who enjoy being read to. There is the right balance of facts and photos to keep the reader (or listener) engaged from start to finish ! Please keep these books coming.. two thumbs up - we LOVE THEM !! *As a product tester; this item has been received either free or at a discounted rate in exchange for my fair unbiased review. Had there been any need for improvement we would have contacted the supplier and stated so here in the review. These books are perfect !!
