Films of Sam Peckinpah

[audiobook] Films of Sam Peckinpah by Neil Fulwood at Arts-Photography

Description

In the summer of 1992; on the eve of an American tour; Ben Watt; one half of the Billboard-topping pop duo Everything But The Girl; was taken to a London hospital complaining of chest pain. He didnrsquo;t leave for two and a half months. Watt had developed a rare life-threatening disease that initially baffled doctors. By the time he was allowed home; his ravaged body was forty-six pounds lighter and he was missing most of his small intestine. Watt injects pathos and humor into his medical nightmare; writing about his childhood; reflecting on his family and on his shared life with band member and partner Tracey Thorn. The result is a provocative and affecting memoir about life; illness; and survival.

First; I am aquainted with the author because I went to their swing dance camp in 1998 and 99. Second; I started swing dancing in the "resurgence" era and I got the bug like so many people of that time did.Stevens book is both informative as well as entertaining. Learning about the roots of the dance; how it evolved from each musical progression; and how a few people resurrected it in the eighties and nineties; giving it new breath and a life that will surely take it to the next several generations.Stevens includes many anecdotes from the legendary dancers Frankie Manning and Norma Miller; as well as Dean Collins; Jean Veloz and many more; too numerous to count. Her personal interviews as well as research has created a handy book for historians and novice enthusiasts alike. It is a great book that every swing dance enthusiast should buy and keep in their library.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Hoped for more exploration of African American swing dances.By Denise JohnsonI credit he authors for acknowledging the African American origin of Swing dances;but I was looking for more information about some of the other branches of the Lindy Hop tree; such as the Chicago Bop and Chicago Steppin. A good first read.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Sandra B. SpringsThis music is coming back.
