Its got a lot of good information in it and I found it to be very helpful. A worthy addition to my library. Would purchase again.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Effective but Very Technical Approach to PortraitureBy Dahlia ForeCarrie Stuart Parks always produces good instruction and advice in her books. She clearly states methods for achieving not only a "good" likeness; but an almost perfect one. While I am a painter rather than a person who draws finished portraits; I find the technical aspects; (tools) of drawing to be a bit cumbersome for painting. However; her instruction on drawing and measuring specific areas of a face is priceless; and of tremendous help in the early stages of a painting. I use this book often as a reference; and wouldnt part with it.11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Amazing author and wonderful teacherBy CustomerCarrie and Rick are not only wonderful authors who explain things so well that you can actually understand what they are saying; they are amazing artists and teachers. I have taken several of her classes and went from drawing stick figures to being able to draw people who actually resemble themselves!Carrie and Rick do not really teach anyone to draw; they teach you to SEE (and then overcome old wrong patterns from our youth). Then she teaches you to put on paper or canvas what you have seen - lines; shadows; degrees of light and dark (values).I swear to all my friends that Carrie could teach a rock to draw! The books are wonderful; their classes are unbeatable....and tremendous fun. They should charge more just for the entertainment value. You will never be bored in one of their classes...challenged; excited; amazed...but never bored.
