ValleeDr. Curl was my favorite teacher while at FAU--he was the head of the history department; a friend and an adviser as well....Great book on the founding (of which he was an important part) of the first American University to be called an upper division University when created...a good read...4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Everything you could ask for!By Nicholas ScaliceHaving just completed my first semester at FAU. I have often wondered how this fine institution got its start back in 1961. Fortunately. Donald W. Curl gives us an answer and so much more. His book may be brief on text. but the outstanding collection of photographs of the university make up for that. This is a must-read for all students of FAU. past and present. as well as any future students. If you want to know about the unique history of your school. this book is a fantastic read that will make you think twice the next time you walk on the FAU campus. If there is any downfall in this publication. it is simply the fact that the narrative and photographic history stops around the year 2000. which means that some of the most important events in FAU history are missing. but rightfully so. since they occurred after the publication date.Nevertheless. this book gives the reader a great account of the early days and with that comes (at least for me) a deeper understanding of such an interesting university.
