An interesting glimpse into the world of art modellingBy LindaI have worked as an art model on and off for about three years at art studios for life drawing classes. It was a fun and rewarding experience.I was lucky in finding reputable studios where the atmosphere was relaxed; neutral and professional. Although I modelled only on a part-time basis; it was a strenuous and stimulating profession. Make no mistake; it was physically more demanding that youd think; and requires plenty of preparation beforehand about poses according to your physical fitness; and timing management. You want to strike poses that are physically sustainable but still interesting to draw from all angles; not just from one side; because there would be students sitting all around your "stage."This book is an interesting glimpse into the world of art modelling; something that I empathise with and enjoy. While the dates of the interviews might be a little old; they still ring true. I would have given this book 5 stars if the interviews were conducted with models in more than one locale. But all in all; it gives anyone interested in this profession a good introduction and idea of what it is about; and why models keep doing it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Just OKBy William J. FallonI think this book is worthwhile if you are interested in the subject. Some of the people are very interesting and some have nothing to say but you can just skip over that. Dont expect anything really racy or surprising unless youre surprised by how hum drum this kind of modelling can be.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A study of interest beyond the arts community...By WriterArtistDCA book about nude art modeling might be expected to be of little serious sociological interest; but this book zeros in on the central questions that arise concerning how and why otherwise ordinary people choose a role so misunderstood by the majority culture in the US; and find in it fulfillment; creativity; fun; and pride. Nothing highlights the assumptions and prejudices of a society better than a contrary instance; and what happens in a figurative art studio is a perfect example. Along the way; a useful list of what an aspiring art model needs to know and do is presented; better than any dry list in a how-to manual. The only limitation is that this is the reporting of interviews during a particular period (before widespread internet use?) and in a particular place (Portland; OR; certainly not typical).
