Bereits zu den Zeiten der Merowinger gab es sie; meist in Form von grouml;szlig;eren Gutshouml;fen; uuml;ber das ganze Frankenreich verteilt. So war es dem Kouml;nig mouml;glich; mit Gefolge in die verschiedenen Regionen seines Reiches zu reisen und eine seinen Anspruuml;chen angemessene Unterkunft vorzufinden. Traditionell verbrachte der Kouml;nig die Sommermonate im Zeltlager bei seinem Heer und uuml;berwinterte in einer der Pfalzen seines Reiches; ohne sich zu weit vom Kriegsschauplatz entfernen zu muuml;ssen.Unter Karl dem Groszlig;en wandelte sich die Gestalt der Kouml;nigspfalz. Die einfachen Gutshouml;fe wurden zu ausgebauten Pfalzanlagen; die reprauml;sentativen Anlauml;ssen gerecht werden konnten. Zentral wichtige Pfalzen bildeten sich heraus. Auf Karl den Groszlig;en gehen unter anderem Pfalzbauten in Ingelheim; Nimwegen; Aachen; Frankfurt am Main und Paderborn zuruuml;ck.Die Aachener Pfalzanlage nimmt dabei eine Sonderstellung ein. Sie wurde ab 794 zum festen Sitz des Hofes und zu Karls Residenz; die er ab dem Jahr 806 bis zu seinem Tod 814 kaum noch verlieszlig;. Mit ihr begann die Entwicklung vom wandernden Kouml;nigtum zum Monarchen mit festem Herrschersitz. Ungewouml;hnlich war nicht nur die monumentale Grouml;szlig;e der Anlage und die uuml;berwiegende Errichtung der Gebauml;ude aus Stein; sondern auch die verwendeten Bauformen. Statt im in der frauml;nkischen Bautradition weit verbreiteten Typ der Saalkirche wurde die Pfalzkapelle in Form eines uuml;berkuppelten Zentralbaus errichtet; der in seiner Grouml;szlig;e alle bisherigen Kirchenbauten im Frankenreich uuml;bertraf. bdquo;Dieser Bau lauml;sst sich aus keiner vorhandenen frauml;nkischen Bautradition ableiten.ldquo;; schreibt dazu Werner Jacobsen (Jacobsen 1994; S. 38).Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die Frage sein; in welches geschichtliche Umfeld der Bau der Aachener Pfalzkapelle einzuordnen ist; wie sich die gewauml;hlte Bauform erklauml;rt; an welchen Vorbildern sie sich orientiert und welche machtpolitischen Intentionen sie zum Ausdruck bringt.Die Literatur zu diesem Thema ist umfangreich und widerspruuml;chlich. Dies ist auch auf die luuml;ckenhafte Quellenlage zur Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte der Karolinger zuruuml;ckzufuuml;hren; was Raum fuuml;r viele Meinungen lauml;sst. Diese Arbeit stuuml;tzt sich auf die im Literaturverzeichnis aufgefuuml;hrte Literatur; dabei hauptsauml;chlich auf die Publikationen von Guuml;nther Binding und Matthias Untermann.

Theres a lot; and I mean a lot of text devoted to recapping and summarizing episodes that as a Trek fan Ive seen dozens of times or more. I learned some things about the supporting cast that I didnt know; but thats about it.IMHO - the best Star Trek TOS book is Stephen E. Whitfields "The Making Of Star Trek." Be An Educated Star Trek Fan!By Jym CherryIve been a fan of a few things in my life; Star Trek; Star Wars; The Doors; and I think Im educated in the fan(aticisms) of my choice. The one common factor Im finding in reading books in the FAQ series is that Im discovering new things on subjects I thought I knew well and "The Star Trek FAQ" is no exception.The "Star Trek FAQ" takes you from Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberrys life through every aspect of the original 79 episode Star Trek series that ran from 1966-1969. I was especially intrigued by the early years of Roddenberrys career; how he went from Los Angeles cop to TV producer; and of the pre-history of Star Trek. Not only reading the biographies (and the post Star Trek lives) of the actors; but also the histories of the shows producers and writers and the input they had under their names and pseudonyms makes you feel you can be a more educated Star Trek viewer.Author Mark Clark will take you through the trials and tribulations (not tribblations) of Roddenberrys getting Star Trek made from casting to pilots; to the struggles of getting good scripts to the screen; the chemistry of the shows stars and some of their disagreements; the aliens the crew of the enterprise met; the problems and issues the show tackled; as well as the highpoints and low points of the series. The "Star Trek FAQ" also goes into post series life of the animated series; the conventions; the novels and novelizations; Roddenberrys post Trek TV series and the attempts to revive a Star Trek series and leading right to the movies; inspired as much by Star Trek fandom and being Paramounts antidote to the success of "Star Wars."There are a couple of minor caveats of the "Star Trek FAQ." One is the repetition of certain Star Trek episodes as being models of the best episodes of Star Trek; writing; acting; or production such as "The Menagerie;" "Where No Man Has Gone Before;" "The City on the Edge of Forever;" "Arena;" "Devil in the Dark;" and their repeated synopsis. And the reverse of that is the interjection of the authors vociferous opinion on the worst episodes that descends into opinion such as "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" which cleverly makes its point at the end of the episode.Even if youre a Star Trek fan youll discover new things about the series; and if youre not a fan of the series by the end of the book you just might find yourself a Star Trek fan; and maybe a fan of the FAQ series.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Packed with tons of information about the series; the cast and the people that made the show possible. If you were a big fan of the original series; than this book is well worth purchasing. The book remains an excellent tribute to one of the best TV shows in television history.
