Description

Fascism; Architecture; and the Claiming of Modern Milan; 1922–1943 chronicles the dramatic architectural and urban transformation of Milan during the nearly twenty years of fascist rule. The commercial and financial centre of Italy and the birthplace of fascism; Milan played a central role in constructing fascism’s national image and identity as it advanced from a revolutionary movement to an established state power.Using a wide range of archival sources; Lucy M. Maulsby analyses the public buildings; from the relatively modest party headquarters to the grandiose Palace of Justice and the Palazzo del Popolo d’Italia; through which Mussolini intended to enhance the city’s image and solidify fascism’s presence in Milan. Maulsby establishes the extent to which Milan’s economic structure; social composition; and cultural orientation affected Il Duce’s plans for the city; demonstrating the influences on urban development that were beyond the control of the fascist regime. By placing Milan’s urban change in its historic context; this book expands our understanding of the relationship between fascism and the modern city.

It focuses on fourth grade level US history; and this particular book talks about the Civil War years. Even though my kids are very young; they love books like this so I got it to read with them. The book begins simply by telling when the Civil War happened and who fought in the war. There are real pictures of soldiers and the battles. The book does tell the main reason for the war. One of the pictures was really cool for my kids because it showed barracks for the soldiers labeled ldquo;Camp Mariettardquo; which is where their grandparents now live! I was unimpressed with the grammar and sentence structure in this book. Even my 6-year old could point out that there were phrases in the book instead of complete sentences. The book spoke briefly about Abraham Lincoln as the president during wartime. Lastly; the book goes into what changes happened after the war was over. Truly the best part of the book was looking at the pictures. They were black and white photographs really taken of the soldiers and battlefields. They were really awesome pictures and added a lot to the book! The book ldquo;4th Grade US History: The Civil War Yearsrdquo; is one of the books in a series of educational books written by Professor Baby and published by Speedy Publishing. This book; which is a part of the ldquo;Childrens American Revolutionary Historyrdquo; series; provides children with a chance to learn about history in a fun and exciting way. These books are filled with exceptional photographs and content geared towards capturing a 4th graders attention span. Easy and fun to read! These books are excellent for use in the classroom or at home. Excellent tool to help children not only learn about the past; but it helps to encourage them to read as well. This short book provides children with the fundamentals of The Civil War. Beautiful; detailed photos along with age appropriate descriptions and fun facts about both armies; slavery being the main cause of the war; Abraham Lincolns role in the war; the role the war played in freeing the slaves and providing equal protection under the law can all be found in this book. These books are great conversation starters for children. The beautiful pictures open up a dialogue for children to express what they see and what they understand by looking at the photographs. Finally; a good tip for parents- these books are great for bedtime! Quick and easy to read; while also providing a little education to your child.I viewed the Kindle version of this book. I was able to successfully download and open the book with my Kindle App with no problems or difficulty. I received this book at a discount in exchange for my honest review. I havenrsquo;t received any kind of compensation and I am not required to give a good review. I am also not associated with the seller or publisher in any way. This book is full of documentary pictures from ...By J. H.This book is somewhat different from the other books written by the same publisher. I have reviewed quite a few books now; and they all have a very similar structure and content. This particular book is about the Civil War. I have to say that the text is quite basic in the book. This is; again; in line with a lot of the other books that I have read by the same publisher. The text is not very deep; and probably too basic for the 4th graders. There is no challenge in the story; in fact it is simply a few sentences put together about the Civil War. This will not educate kids. However; the pictures once again are great. This book is full of documentary pictures from the Civil War time. In fact; I dont think I have ever seen so many pictures from that time put together in one book. For a 4th grader though; I would say this book is going to be super boring! There are photos there of some soldiers. All the photos look much the same - a bunch of soldiers in uniforms. While for a grown-up interested in history this book will look amazing; for a 4th grader this book will probably look boring and repetitive; so I think overall grade for the book for me is just ok; since I am judging not for myself; what I think; but what a 4th grader would say about it - through my opinion.I have read this book for free for a review.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. great for preteensBy desiree a greenI purchased this book on my kindle for my little eleven year old history buff. He is constantly trying to learn as much as he can. He really enjoyed reading this book. It also brought up all sorts of questions for him which led to him actually doing research. Anyone with a preteen knows they do not do research; so I was super excited when I saw he was doing research. It was easy for him to understand even though he is severely dyslexic. I purchased this product at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
