Robert Rodriguez stands alone as the most successful U.S. Latino filmmaker today; whose work has single-handedly brought U.S. Latino filmmaking into the mainstream of twenty-first-century global cinema. Rodriguez is a prolific (eighteen films in twenty-one years) and all-encompassing filmmaker who has scripted; directed; shot; edited; and scored nearly all his films since his first breakout success; El Mariachi; in 1992. With new films constantly coming out and the launch of his El Rey Network television channel; he receives unceasing coverage in the entertainment media; but systematic scholarly study of Rodriguezs films is only just beginning. The Cinema of Robert Rodriguez offers the first extended investigation of this important filmmakers art. Accessibly written for fans as well as scholars; it addresses all of Rodriguezs feature films through Spy Kids 4 and Machete Kills; and his filmmaking process from initial inspiration; to script; to film (with its myriad visual and auditory elements and choices); to final product; to (usually) critical and commercial success. In addition to his close analysis of Rodriguezs work; Frederick Luis Aldama presents an original interview with the filmmaker; in which they discuss his career and his relationship to the film industry. This entertaining and much-needed scholarly overview of Rodriguezs work shines new light on several key topics; including the filmmakers creative; low-cost; efficient approach to filmmaking; the acceptance of Latino films and filmmakers in mainstream cinema; and the consumption and reception of film in the twenty-first century.

I was looking for something that would take my playing skills to the next level and beyond. Along with continued; dedicated practice and hard work; I believe the Alfred Acoustic Guitar Method will advance my skills. Its very comprehensive; touching on all different styles for the acoustic guitar. My desired "niche" in the world of music is "Acoustic Rock" in the style of Dave Matthews; John Mayer etc. Most -acoustic guitar- learning material is focused on fingerstyle; flatpicking bluegrass; or folk music; which is great; but not exactly what I was looking for. This method seems to have a more broad brush approach for learning the acoustic guitar - touching on several styles including "acoustic funk" which is a style Ive never encountered; and am excited to learn.. As with any method book; its not going to give you everything you want. As an "at home" learner; Ive discovered the best way for me to learn is to combine different materials. I will be using these books as my "main" learning tool while; supplementing it with in depth music theory training (this book does a nice job introducing music theory but doesnt go deep enough)and some "fun stuff" learning songs and licks from youtube.. I did not give it 5 Stars because I felt that they couldve given more exercises for each lesson - while the exercises are good; I think it needs more exercises for each lesson. The jam tracks are fantastic - but it wouldve been nice if they had two or three versions of each track - at slower; medium; and fast speeds. Also; since these are three books combined into one - the binding makes it impossible to lay flat on a music stand. Wouldve been much better had they done these in a spiral bound book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very good acoustic guitar methodBy Thodes04I have been using the book for more than a month and I find it very useful. The audio really helps when I am executing the exercises. Yet; a little more exercises would be great but the book is big enough. Thats a good book to learn some basic theory; the basics in certain styles good techniques in guitar. It starts from the beginner level to the advanced. You can check it on google books to have a preview if one would like to buy it.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I like itBy Jose Ricardo Loureiro de SaI have just got the three volumes of the complete set of books each one with its corresponding CD. The content is clearly explained and goes from the most basic concepts to those tips that will make the difference for your learning.
